Q&A

These are common questions that I get from time to time from new readers. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Where do you and DDHP live?

We currently live in Austin, Texas. We love it here so much! :)

You always talk about working. What exactly is it that you & your husband do?

We are a Husband + Wife Photography team and are loving every minute of it! :) DDHP has a full time job aside from photography that he loves but he's somehow balanced being my second shooter, accountant, back rubber, invoice man, and the glue that holds me together very well. We stay busy that is for sure.

Do you have a photography portfolio or website?

At this time, we have our Facebook page and this blog. But thankfully, I'm working behind the scenes over here to get our website up very soon. It's about time we had one right? :)

Will you travel for a photoshoot or a wedding?

Heck yes! We love love love to travel. We will go anywhere that our passports will take us. We've traveled all over the state of Texas, Mexico, California, New Mexico, Massachusetts, and South Carolina. If you want to get married in Fiji or Italy or Austrailia or the South of France, or Iceland...TAKE US WITH YOU! :)

Where did you and DDHP go to college? Or did you go to college?

Yes, we both are college graduates. I went to Sam Houston State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations. I minored in Business. DDHP graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science and Business.

What does DDHP stand for?

DDHP stands for Drew Drew Hot Pants. My friend in college randomly started calling him that one day and it just stuck. It's super silly, I know, but we embrace it because he really has the hottest pants in all the land. :)

How long have you and DDHP been together and how long have you been married?

DDHP and I met in college in May 2006. We were engaged in March 2008 and were married in March 2009. We have been married for 5 years this past March and together 7 years this past June. CRAZY how fast time flies! :)

When are you and DDHP going to have little Nelson's?

Haha! :) We get this a lot, but we aren't really sure when! :) We know we definitely want children, but aren't sure right now is the time. We are still young and want to do a couple things before we commit to something that big, but if it happens, we will embrace it with open arms.

You never posted about your honeymoon. Where did y'all go?

I still can't believe I haven't posted about my honeymoon. It's probably because I took a gazillion pictures and it was before I had a good camera. I will work on getting our honeymoon up sometime in the future. We went to the Greece, and it was the craziest, most beautiful vacation I've ever had. Just a dream, really. We also like to compare our time overseas to that movie Just Married. There were strikes, which left us stranded on islands; I hit my head on a boat and had to go to the hospital. Three stitches on the top of my head and a concussion later....yeah. Totally happened.

HOW in the world do you get DDHP to cooperate and be goofy with you all the time? My husband never wants to take pictures and will not participate.

Haha! Honestly, the reason I married my husband is because he was so goofy. I knew that I wanted to marry someone who was fun, easy going, and made me laugh. I just got super lucky, and I know that sounds cliche' but it is seriously true. Drew isn't "your average Joe" I guess you could say haha but that's what I like about him. Trust me though, there are some days he rolls his eyes and complains like most dudes do. I just tell him to suck it up and stop being a pansy. Trust me, if you're guy doesn't like pictures and doesn't dance in random videos, it's OKAY. He's totally normal. I just lucked out that Drew was raised by amazing parents, enjoys being random and embraces the silly with me, and also growing up with a twin sister probably really helped form the man he is today.

Does DDHP have a brother!?

Sorry ladies, he does not. He does however have a beautiful twin sister.

Are you guys really that perfect?

No way Jose! Our relationship is not perfect by any means. We have our struggles and problems just like everyone else. However, we just communicate really well and we work out our problems. There are days we want to pull each other's hair out, OF course. We said our vows, really meant them and we try our best to be the best partner we can be to one another. We make it a point to keep God at the core of our relationship, and it works for us. Really trying, communicating, and rolling with the punches will go a long way too. We really like to have fun and not take things so seriously. Also, remembering the reason we got married is always something we relate back to when we get mad at each other, and guess what? It works! :) Bottom line: We are just crazy about each other and that's one thing we can't hide. :)

What kind of camera do you shoot with?

I shoot with a Canon Mark 5D Mark ii. I absolutely LOVE this camera. DDHP shoots with a Canon 5D, but we are hoping to add the Canon Mark 5D Mark iii to our collection really soon. I also just purchased a CONTAX 645 and I'm about to attempt the journey in shooting film. I'm nervous but excited. We will see what happens. No promises over here.

What is your favorite lens to shoot with?

Hands down, my Canon 50mm 1.2.

How did you get started with your business?

The road to my business has been a passionate, fun, long, tiring, and crazy ride. It's been worth it, but I talk more about that in detail here, and here. Long story short, I fell in love with photography, DDHP surprised me with a camera (Canon 5D), I took pictures of friends, and basically booked sessions by word of mouth. As I got more comfortable in my craft and realized this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I applied for my DBA, and then my LLC. I now own and operate my business with my husband. It's a lot of hard work, super stressful at times, but it's also a lot of fun and worth it. It's a give and take relationship and I wouldn't change it for the world! :) We have a lot of changes happening soon...BIG changes that I can't wait to share with you. Please stay tuned! :)

I'll continue to update this with more common questions as I get them. Thanks for reading! :)
